From the Ministry, they maintain that, based on a study by the European Commission, it is expected that the estimated benefits of introducing 5G in four productive sectors – automotive, health, transport, and utilities – would progressively increase until reaching 62,500 million euros of annual direct impact within the European Union in 2025, which would rise to 113,000 million euros adding the indirect impacts. According to this same study, it is estimated that in our country there would be indirect benefits in these four sectors of 14.6 billion euros and significant job creation.

5G Internet National Plan

In our country, the central government, since 2017, has been working to promote the deployment of networks and development of 5G Internet technologies through three main lines of action, as established in the 5G National Plan. A strategy that aims to place Spain among the most advanced countries in the development of this new technology.

The measures contemplated in this plan are structured according to the following lines of action:

Management and planning of the radioelectric spectrum, to guarantee the availability in the appropriate terms of the different frequency bands necessary for the provision of communication services over 5G networks.
Promotion of 5G technology.
Coordination of the Plan and international cooperation.
Regulatory aspects that provide the essential legal certainty to incentivize and facilitate the necessary investments for the deployment of 5G infrastructures and technologies.
